Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Breeding Guide

Fans of the Pokémon series will know that breeding is a staple tradition of the main series Pokémon games. Pokémon Scarlet and Violet is nurtured, but it changes some of the mechanics that older fans may be familiar with. This is what you need to know about breeding in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.

How does breeding work in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet?

Breeding in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet has been greatly simplified from previous generations. It is also much cheaper because there are no nurseries in Paldea. Instead, Pokémon Eggs can be created by stopping anywhere in the open world and enjoying a picnic with your party’s Pokémon. Any two Pokémon in your current group can create an Egg, as long as they are of a different gender and belong to the same Egg Group.

Start your picnic, then take a minute to walk, talk, or wash your Pokémon, or make a tasty sandwich. We recommend the jam sandwichsince it is easy to obtain ingredients and one of its food powers, egg power, increases the rate at which Pokémon produce eggs. When you’ve walked for a few minutes, check out the wicker basket on top of a pillow next to your picnic table. If your Pokémon produced an egg, it will be found there and sent to a box.

As in previous generations, the type of Pokemon you’ll hatch will be the same as its mother, unless you’re using Ditto. However, Pokémon produced from eggs no longer learn moves from the mother or father. “Egg” moves can now be passed to a Pokemon that has an item called a Mirror Herb from another Pokemon at the end of a picnic. Since “Egg” moves are no longer tied to breeding, Pokémon can learn moves from others, regardless of their gender or species.
