Paldea is a large region and you will need help. Fortunately, Pokémon Scarlet & Violet is the first in the series to introduce a multiplayer feature. With it, you can travel to Paldea with up to three more friends, both locally and online. If you want to get in on this fun, here’s how to do it.
Pokémon Scarlet and Violet: how to play online with friends in cooperative mode
To play multiplayer with friends or even strangers, just do the following:
- Press X to open the menu.
- select pokemon gate.
- To go union circle.
From here, you will be asked if you want to form a group or join a group. The first will open a new room, allowing you to invite up to three other players. Choosing Join a Group, meanwhile, will ask you to enter a unique code from an existing room to travel with your friends.

Any player can be matched with other managers locally. However, a Nintendo Switch Online Membership subscription is required if you want to play online. You cannot trade or fight other (real life) trainers while in multiplayer. But you can certainly do it with your roommates!
If you can’t find Poké Portal in the menu, progress further in the story. The Poké Portal is also where you can receive Mystery Gifts, participate in Surprise Trades, and go head-to-head in PvP in the Battle Arena. Some of these features may be blocked if you do not have a Nintendo Switch Online Membership.
