How to beat Fighting Team Star Eri in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet

Eri is the last of the five Team Star bosses that trainers face in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. He is also a very difficult boss to beat considering his team composition is pretty well done. Eri will have a plan for every super effective weakness that Fighting has, so definitely don’t expect to just bring in a strong counter and call it a day. Trainers will need to have a solid game plan for any hope of beating Eri.

Since this team uses fighting types, trainers will want to select three types of Pokemon to use here: psychic, fairy, and flying. This team fight will take a bit longer since the team doesn’t send 3 pokemon all the time. Sometimes trainers will have to send out just one Pokemon to take out two from Team Star, making the whole process longer.

How to beat Eri (Boss of Team Star Fighting) in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet

Here’s a breakdown of Eri’s team:

  • Toxicroak level 56
  • Annihilate level 56
  • Passimian level 55
  • lucario level 55
  • Bathroom level 56

Looking at this team, it’s clear to see how trainers can’t just abuse type matchups in this battle. Eri has accounted for all of Fighting’s weaknesses: Psychic-types can lose to Lucario (who has Dark Pulse), Fairies can lose to Toxicroak, and Flying-types can also lose to Lucario (Passimian also knows Rock Tomb).

With this being the case, trainers will likely have to use a combination of Pokemon to defeat Eri. The best place to start would be a strong Flying-type, as they can break through Toxicroak, Passimian, and Revvroom. Corviknight, Hawlucha, and Noivern would all be great choices for this role. Talonflame should also be considered, as he too would beat Lucario with a Flare Blitz.

Otherwise, players will need a controller for Lucario and Annihilape. Fire-types can burn straight through Lucario, with the exceptions of Skeledirge, Armarouge, and Ceruledge (all die from a Dark Pulse). Strong alternatives would be Arcanine, Flareon, or Volcarona.

Finally, if Trainers want a super fast way to beat Eri, Dragon Dance Dragonite can blow this whole team away. Get in front of the Toxicroak, and none of Eri’s team will be able to take a Dragon Claw, except for Lucario (who gets blown up by Earthquake anyway).
