Do dialogue options matter in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet?

If you’re a fan of the Pokémon franchise, then you know that dialogue options are not a new addition to the series. In most cases, these choices are made due to story progression. But beyond that, they don’t matter. This is especially so in the newer game. However, there are must-see and unique events that can’t be changed and will if you’re interested in what the rest of your Pokémon journey will look like.

  • Name, gender, skin color and birthday settings
    • You cannot change any of these options after you have selected them at the start of the game.
  • starter pokemon
    • You can only choose a starter Pokémon at the beginning of your journey. These include Sprigatito, Fuecoco, and Quaxly.

  • Fight/Catch Rare and Legendary Pokemon
    • When fighting a Legendary or Rare Pokémon, be careful not to defeat it before catching it. If you do, you’ll lose the chance to catch it and add it to your Pokédex. These Pokémon also include battles with Titan Pokémon.
  • mystery gifts
    • Some Pokémon are only available through different events, such as Mystery Gifts from other promotional events. These events don’t run very often, which means it’s quite possible to miss out on the Pokémon that are given out.
  • Trainers inside gyms
    • If you defeat the gym leader before fighting the other trainers inside, you will lose that opportunity forever. You won’t be able to fight them anymore.
  • Trade winds
    • Some NPCs will ask you to trade different Pokemon with them in exchange for another Pokemon. This is something that cannot be reversed, so make sure that you are really interested in the Pokémon that you will be given. Random trades via Trade Surprise also cannot be reversed as the player you are trading with is random.
